WHERE ARE WE?

Staincliffe Baptist Church is in Garnett Street, just off Halifax Road (the A638) about half-way between Heckmondwike and Dewsbury Town Centres. It is just over a hundred metres west of Dewsbury & District Hospital.

If you are using a satellite navigation system, enter the postcode WF13 4AT

By car from the M1

Leave at junction 40 and follow the signs for “A638 Dewsbury”. After descending a steep hill in a cutting, you will reach a traffic light junction. Continue straight ahead. You will almost immediately pass through another traffic light junction, with a large church building on your left. You now need to move into the offside lane. (*) There are now two more traffic light junctions, very close together, with right turns that pass under a railway viaduct. Take the second of these right turns onto a road with signs for “A638 Halifax”. After a mile or so you will pass Dewsbury & District Hospital on your left, followed by a petrol station. Ahead you will see a traffic light junction, but shortly before reaching it there is a little side street on your left, called Garnett Street. Turn into this and you will see the church building on your left.

By car from the M62 (east)

Leave at junction 28 and follow the signs for “A653 Dewsbury”. After about four miles you will reach a “T” junction with a large church building (Dewsbury Baptist Church) facing you. Turn right, and keep in the offside lane. Then follow the instructions as for the M1 from the point marked (*).

By car from the M62 (west)

Leave at junction 26 and follow the signs for “A638 Dewsbury”. Continue on this road through Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. After passing straight at a junction with left turn signs for “Batley” you will climb a hill. As the road levels out, you will see a traffic light junction with a public house (The Butcher’s Arms) on your right. Go straight ahead at this junction, then take the first side road on your right, called Garnett Street. The church building is on the left. (If you find you are passing Dewsbury & District Hospital, you have just missed us!)

By train

We are about two miles from Dewsbury Railway Station. There is a taxi office on the station but, if you would prefer to use a bus, turn left out of the main entrance of the station, walk to the first traffic light junction and turn left into Halifax Road. Just under the viaduct is a bus stop from where you can take the 212, 268 or 283 bus (fare £1.50). Ask the driver for the “Butcher’s Arms” fare stage.

By bus

The following Arriva services stop very close to the church building. Ask the driver for the

“Butcher’s Arms” fare stage.

212 (Dewsbury-Wakefield), 213 (Dewsbury-Morley - does not run on Sundays!)
